Here We Go

A few things to note:

Both this blog and the Facebook page will be a place where you can post your own comments/concerns/recipe ideas. After all, this is the internet and I'm not about to be the only guy ranting and raving on here. This blog's all about trying to create a more vibrant campus community and I think that can be achieved through open conversation about everything I write on this site or whatever else may be affecting the Ryerson campus.

If there's a certain topic, whether it be in a post of mine, or on the Facebook wall or discussion board, obviously I want everyone to get in on some of this hot school-related action (I realize of course there's no such thing as "hot school-related action," but you know what I'm getting at).

That said, I'm not down with baseless insults being textually hurled at a certain individual or group. If anything comes across as racist, sexist, or anything of the sort, I'm going to have to delete your comment. I really hope that doesn't have to occur, but some people just need the rules to be clarified. I'm looking in your direction, Bigot McPosts-a-lot.

Let's try an exercise. Take a look at these sample comments:

"Ryerson is terrible!"
How come? Expand on that.

Instead, you could say...

"I don't hold Ryerson in the highest regard because of their recent business related budget cuts."
A bit ambiguous, but it's a start.

Let's try another.

"Dan is a jackass!"
That's a little harsh. Some insight would be nice.

"I'm not a fan of Dan because of his clichéd hipster glasses and unimpressive self-deprecating sense of humour."
I can change! I swear!

You get the idea.
